Looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community? As a Volunteer EMT with Deer-Grove EMS District (DGEMS), you’ll play a crucial role in delivering high-quality emergency medical services. Our volunteers are vital members of the team, stepping up during emergencies, periods of peak workload, and when additional support is needed. Role Overview

A volunteer plays a crucial role in supplementing the regular EMS workforce, responding to emergencies and assisting with daily operational duties. Volunteers operate under the guidance of the DGEMS Deputy Chief and on-duty Officer Staff and must be credentialed by the District’s Medical Director to deliver care as needed. Volunteer work may occur during periods of peak workload, employee absences, or in response to natural disasters and emergencies. Volunteers may receive a nominal fee but do not displace regular employees.

Key Requirements

Licensing & Certification:

  • Current WI EMT license (EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic).
  • Maintain active certifications as appropriate for licensure:
    • EMT and AEMT: Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (CPR).
    • Paramedic: BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with insurability under District requirements.
  • Completion of a formal emergency vehicle operation course (EVOC, CEVO).
  • Completion of Incident Command System courses: IS100, IS200, IS700, and IS800.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Comprehensive understanding of EMS operations, including WI Admin Code Chapter DHS 110 and relevant regulations.
  • Familiarity with emergency management protocols at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and maintain situational awareness during emergencies.
  • Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of agencies involved in EMS and disaster response.

Technical & Interpersonal Skills:

  • Ability to operate computerized EMS equipment and follow detailed instructions.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with proficiency in report writing and presentation.
  • Skill in establishing effective relationships with EMS staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Detail-oriented with experience in record-keeping and documentation.

Preferred Skills

  • Current National Registry of EMT’s certification at their licensure level.
  • Certifications in PHTLS, PEPP, or instructor status in related courses.
  • Familiarity with EMS electronic patient care reporting systems and office software.
  • Basic knowledge of local municipal ordinances and regulations.
