Role Overview

The Full-Time Paramedic ensures Deer-Grove EMS District provides top-tier emergency medical services. Reporting to the DGEMS Deputy Chief or on-duty Officer Staff, you will collaborate with team members to handle daily duties, respond to emergencies, and document incidents. Paramedics must be credentialed under the District’s Medical Director to deliver care.

Key Requirements

Licensing & Certification:

  • Must possess a current WI Paramedic license.
  • Maintain active certifications in Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (CPR), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with insurability under District requirements.
  • Completion of a formal emergency vehicle operation course (EVOC, CEVO).
  • Successful completion of Incident Command System courses: IS100, IS200, IS700, and IS800.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of emergency medical services operations, including familiarity with WI Admin Code Chapter DHS 110 and other relevant state and county EMS regulations.
  • Understanding of local, county, state, and federal laws and emergency management protocols related to EMS and disaster response.
  • Ability to maintain situational awareness and make sound, rapid decisions under pressure, especially in emergencies or high-stress situations.
  • Familiarity with the roles and responsibilities of various agencies involved in EMS and emergency management.

Technical & Interpersonal Skills:

  • Proficiency in operating computerized EMS equipment and following both oral and written instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Exceptional personal management and planning abilities to ensure effective scheduling and crew management.
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with EMS staff, volunteers, municipal officials, and the public.
  • Detail-oriented with considerable skill in maintaining records and preparing written documentation.
  • Comfortable with public speaking, report presentations, and demonstrating a high level of professionalism in all interactions.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Current National Registry of EMT’s certification at the paramedic level.
  • Certifications such as Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers (PEPP), or instructor status in related courses.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable local municipal ordinances and regulations.
